Hi everyone! Well, we made it to the end of crochet week and I hope all of you have found some new crochet inspiration! I know I certainly have! I loved some of Leanne's suggestions as well as Kristin Omdahl's Free Shawl Pattern! It makes me wish I had started crocheting much sooner! I have so far to go before I'll be able to accomplish one of those beautiful projects! It's okay though, we all have to start somewhere, and for me that is here:
Voila! My first completed crochet project EVER! With Amber's help (she was our main resident crocheter until very recently), I was able to fumble along and create this nice little hat. Sure, the crown is a bit tight and creeps up a bit so that I have to yank it down over my ears frequently, but I made it! I'm pretty proud of it. This hat is made out of Malabrigo Merino Worsted and the color is Mariposa. I didn't use a pattern, I just followed a basic formula that Amber suggested and it worked pretty well I think!
Our dynamic duo, Jeanne and Sandy, were recently so inspired by Kathy Merrick's book Crochet in Color, that they both had to knit these beautiful matching Pleated Hats out of Lorna's Laces. Aren't they so cute? I love the Turban Style that is very reminiscent of fashionable hats from the Regency Period or the Roaring Twenties. The history buff in me gravitates towards unique takes on cherished styles. This lovely crochet pattern is certainly no exception!
Shevawn recently completed this cute earflap hat from Stitch N' Bitch Crochet: The Happy Hooker. This hat, called "The PDQ," is fun and funky for sure! I think it looks adorable on her too!
Next, I think Jimmy's crochet version of the Make No Mistake scarf is pretty awesome. Maybe my next crochet project will be something like this! I've been dying to work with some of the beautiful Rowan Lima so this scarf would be an excellent excuse!
With future projects in mind, and when I finally get my crochet skills up to snuff, I plan to someday make this beautiful Sunshine Day Baby Afghan by Alicia Paulson. I've been following her blog for years (she writes at Posy Gets Cosy) and she has recently started to do some crochet designing. I just love the baby things she creates! This lovely afghan is an updated take on the old classic "Granny Square" blanket and is just beautiful! She uses soft Cascade Eco Alpaca and various colors of Blue Sky Alpacas Sportweight. Maybe not the most machine washable choice for a baby blanket, but certainly heirloom worthy at least!
