End of Summer Giveaway Celebration!

Happy Labor day weekend everyone! It is my hope for all of you that you are up to some fun things this weekend. I am planning on heading out to a local farm to pick tomatoes for canning (they have them for very cheap this time of year) and participate in the local Cantaloupe festival. There are sure to be plenty of delicious varieties of melon to taste and adorable goats to pet. I'll be in heaven. And when that's done, I'll be doing plenty of knitting, of course!

In the meantime, I have a small stack of books on my desk here that I need to find good homes for. A few of these were actually unclaimed books from earlier giveaways this summer and I was unable to find out the winners real names to distribute them. Such a shame, because these books so badly want to go to a happy home! So, I am re-releasing them out into the internet wilds in hopes that this time they will land in a good place.

First up, I have Dana Willard's Fabrics A to Z. Dana is the writer and designer behind Dana Made It, one of the most fun blogs I've ever had the pleasure of reading. If you ask me, this is one of the most comprehensive fabric resource books I've ever seen! It covers just about every type of fabric imaginable and also includes awesome descriptive photos, fabric care for each one, as well as tips for working with them. Honestly, for a new and experienced sewers alike, this book is a gold mine of information!

Next we have Wendy Bernard's Custom Knits 2 and Custom Knits Accessories! Wendy is just about one of the sweetest ladies around and has such a fun fresh west-coast style to all of her designs. Plus, her blog, Knit and Tonic is fun, clever, and a joy to read! These two books are a follow up to her ever popular Custom Knits book and continues the discussion on ways to personalize your knits and tailor them to fit you. To read more about these books, be sure to go back and read the interviews I did with her earlier in the summer here and here.

My Grandmother's Knitting by Larissa Brown is truthfully one of the sweetest books I've seen in a log while. I love anything that combines history, nostalgia, and knitting and this book delivers all of those things in one little package. In this book, Larissa has gathered many top knitwear designers and asked them to design something inspired by the person who taught them to knit. How neat is that?!?! I love the stories, the designs, the whole book! Such a great little treasure to have in your collection.

Lastly, I have a recently re-released soft cover copy of Knitting Nature by Norah Gaughan, who needs no formal introduction, does she? This book, which was originally published in 2006, features classic Norah Gaughan design and style that has not faded years later. This book features 39 designs from Norah with patterns for women, men, accessories for both you and the home. It's beautiful and innovative and such a classic book to have in your collection. If you've not yet knit anything by Norah, you'll absolutely have to add one to your queue...her designs are amazing!

All of these books were given to us courtesy of STC Crafts which is why we are so excited to share them with you!

In order to win one of these books, please leave me a comment, a love letter if you will, explaining which of these books you'd be delighted to win and why. Feel free to name several if you covet more than one. On Monday (Labor Day), I will select winners at random and announce them on the blog here. Be sure to check back in and see if you've won! I'd love if all of these lovely books found someone to cherish them!

With that, I bid you a happy weekend!

  3. Hi Kristen!
I am a newbie knitter and I would most love the book: My Grandmother's Knitting by Larissa Brown. As I never really got to know either of my g'mas as they lived too far away I'd love to see hear how others were inspired by g'mas and the like to knit/create patterns. :)
I would also appreciate Knitting Nature by Norah Gaughan as I have not knit anything by her yet and Classics are the best! :D I love things that don't go out of style! :)
Thank you for the chance and may you have a wonderful weekend! :)

  7. Hi. I would love to win any one of the knitting books. They appear to be very interesting with some great projects. Enjoy your fun filled weekend. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to enter.

  8. Hi Kristen, I would love to win custom knits, either book. My mom who taught me to knit years go did nothing but custom knitting and wrote her own patterns. She is gone now, and I miss her advice and critiquing of my work. Alas, I did not inherit that knack from her so always have to have a pattern, but love the custom look.

  9. I would LOVE to win Wendy Bernard's Custom Knits Accessories! I mostly make accessories, gloves, hats, scarves, etc. and would love to hone my craft. It looks like her designs are fresh and interesting, which excites me. Oh, and my birthday is Sept 7th. I could always use an extra birthday present! :o) Thanks so much!!!

  11. It would be wonderful to win "My Grandmother's Knitting" by Larissa Brown to give to my daughter. Stephanie learned to knit from her grandmother (my mother) and was very close to her. I know that she would enjoy this book.

  12. I would love the Custom Knits Accessories book because I like to work with smaller projects cause I'm not real good with delayed gratification! Also I would love the Knitting Nature book because Nora Gaughan's designs are so interesting.

  13. I would love to win "My Grandmother's Knitting". My grandma first taught me about the love of yarn with a spool that had 4 nails pounded in it, made by my grandpa. I have such fond memories of working on things with her and my mom-now I have a 6 year old granddaughter that I'm starting to teach. This would be a great book to share with her along the way...
What a tough task you have in front of you-great comments! Thank you for the opportunity!

  15. Dear Kristen - would love to have "My Grandmother's Knitting" by Larissa Brown, in honor of my mom who taught me the basics of knitting, but also the elderly neighbor lady who loved to sit with me and REALLY show me how to knit!! She was a master knitter, and I still use the things she showed me (now we call them "techniques"!!!).

I love JimmyBeans Wool and the crew!

  18. Wendy Bernard's Custom Knits 2 and Custom Knits Accessories. These books would be my choice. What a lovely way to spend the Fall and Winter knitting from them. Hours of sitting with a snuggy blanket with a cup of tea, while perusing patterns sounds fine to me.

  19. I have always wanted to do one of Norah's designs - but always had difficulty deciding which one - if I won a book, at least I would have it narrowed down to something from that book!

Enjoy the cantalope festival - is that the one in Fallon?

  20. Oh, they are all so tempting! I'd love My Grandmother's knitting though -- I'm one of those that loves to READ my knitting books LOL

  21. As much as I always covet a new knitting book it would. Have to be the Grandmothers Knitting book. My Gram taught me to knit before I was six years old....... And she also was responsible for the fact I had to wear a Kelly green cabled sweater with a balaclava hat for a whole winter. Loved the sweater and wanted to die when my mom made me wear the hat..... 28. I would love to win either Custom Knitting 2 or My Grandmother's Knitting. I have started moving in the direction of customizing my garments and I just moved from Reno to Juneau, AK, so I don't have my Beans to help me out as immediately. As for the second book, my grandmother taught me how to knit, in German, and I wish I could be in Austria to learn more from her, especially with all the rich traditional knits from that region.

  29. I would love to win Custom Knit Accessories, Knitting Nature, or My Grandmother's Knitting (I already have Custom Knits 2). All three books have beautiful patterns that I would thoroughly enjoy knitting.

I have her first book and it's actually the first book that I have knitted more than one pattern from! I would love to have either one of her books to add to my library. Just paging through the books gives me such inspiration and a desire to knit. Anything in there. Right now. ; )

  47. You're giving away books?? Can I sit at your desk and read? If you can part with it I would love Wendy's Custom Knit accessories. I've got both of her sweater books and love them. Have made a few of the sweaters but have coveted the accessory book.

  48. Hi Kristen....I love Jimmy Beans Wool and love reading the blog! I would love to have My Grandmothers Knitting as I like the idea behind the book. I'm always curious to know when I meet people who knit what started them to knit and who taught them to knit! BUT I would also love to have Custom Knits 2! I completed my first garment, the Drive Thru cardigan for my daughter using one of Wendy Benards patterns! I was surprised at how easy it was to knit! Either book, I'll be satisfied!

I would love a copy of My Grandmother's Knitting, or really any of the books. My grandmother taught me to crochet when I was a little girl, but I never had the patience for knitting. Well, I just started knitting this year, but I attribute my love for handcrafts to my grandmother.

    Thanks for offering these.
